Research infrastructure
Our scientists are not only involved in sophisticated numerical analyses, but also carry out experiments using sophisticated measurement and testing technology.
The test facilities and aircraft operated by the institute and those used externally cover a wide range of flow conditions - from low speeds (ground traffic) to high speeds (supersonic and hypersonic aircraft and spacecraft). Our test facilities are equipped with specialised measurement technology to control the test conditions and to measure various physical properties such as temperature, pressure, velocity and density in steady and unsteady flows.
Thanks to the test facilities available to us and the largest fleet of research aircraft in Europe, we are highly competitive and can play a leading role in national and European projects.
DLR's large-scale research facilities are used across institutes and programmes. In addition, DLR makes its facilities, research aircraft and expertise available to national and international partners from research and industry.
