Occupational Health and Safety

The Occupational Health and Safety group is divided into the Safety Center, Fire Brigade and Medical Service. The employees are particularly concerned with the further development of the safety management system, updating the hazard prevention plans, fire and explosion protection and the procedures and technologies used for this purpose. The aim is to continuously improve safety and respond to changes in regulations.

Safety Center

Safety Center

The entire site is monitored around the clock in terms of security. All the threads come together in the Safety Center to ensure smooth operation. The safety requirements for each test are planned, coordinated and monitored in detail from there. The employees at the Safety Center also coordinate other safety-related activities such as construction sites, heavy transport and fuel deliveries. They plan the barrier measures and the corresponding personnel and ensure that no persons are present in hazardous areas. They also inform and advise the plant managers and emergency services on fault and alarm messages and provide support in dealing with incidents. The general safety briefing for the site also falls within the remit of the Safety Center.

All alarms, faults and emergency calls come together in the Safety Center. Operations are coordinated and announcements made from here. The site has its own emergency number so that medical and fire brigade operations can be handled completely independently. The Safety Center also has direct contact with the authorities so that additional emergency services can be requested if necessary.

Fire Brigade

Fire Brigade – preventive and defensive fire protection
Our Fire Brigade is trained to deal with emergencies and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The Fire Brigade has a great deal of expert knowledge thanks to its full-time and volunteer firefighters.

The Fire Brigade is equipped to meet the needs of the site. It consists of full-time personnel who are additionally supported by volunteer firefighters from other departments. Thanks to the full-time and volunteer firefighters, the Fire Brigade has a great deal of expert knowledge at its disposal. Special extinguishing agents and an extensive supply of extinguishing water are part of our emergency response concept. In addition, we focus on preventive emergency response. Our Fire Brigade directly implements measures and findings from plant engineering, organizational and preventive fire protection. Its tasks include, for example, testing fire protection equipment and ensuring fire prevention and protection in test operations.

Occupational health and safety

Primary medical care and occupational health care

The DLR Institute has a full-time paramedic as well as other volunteer company paramedics. The paramedic is responsible for the occupational medical care of DLR employees at the site. We offer a comprehensive range of medical services, from occupational health screening to addiction prevention and health promotion.

Our first-aid service is on standby with an ambulance – for acute emergencies as well as minor injuries. In addition, DLR employees and external company employees can seek medical advice at the first-aid station at any time.

In an emergency, we are on site within three minutes on average and take over further care. If necessary, the external rescue service and/or an emergency doctor will be called in.

Explosion and occupational safety

Our voluntary commitment to comply with legal and other requirements provides the necessary framework conditions for safe working in order to protect employees, contractors, visitors and the neighborhood. We also undertake to carry out safety checks and risk assessments, for example, and regulate the use of permits and noise limits in the workplace. We attach great importance to ensuring that all companies operating at our site also work as safely as possible. Another important aspect of occupational safety is the use of suitable personal protective equipment for our employees.

We have appointed an explosion protection officer who supports the respective plant operators in complying with the statutory explosion protection requirements.
