Motorway at night - traffic light strips
A motorway in the woods at night. Due to the long exposure time, the light from the headlights and tail lights of the vehicles has left bright white and red stripes on the lanes. These light strips appear to float above the motorway without any visible vehicles.

The Institutional and Strategic Planning department drives the development of visions of a future transport system at the Institute, from which its strategy is derived and subsequently implemented. To this end, we monitor and assess relevant developments and trends in technology, society and politics as well as innovations on the research market.

Future driven projects

On this basis, we take on strategically relevant projects in a national and international environment and ensure efficient project realisation with excellent results through professional project management. With the knowledge gained in the process, we provide key impetus for the future direction of the Institute in terms of subject matter, develop our research and innovation agenda and optimise our project management and administrative work processes.

Currently on our agenda

Knowledge transfer on a large scale

Through our active memberships in national and international committees, we ensure a rapid and bidirectional transfer of knowledge between research and practice. In doing so, we ensure that our scientific findings are put into practice and new, economically relevant issues are added to our research agenda. To address these issues, we develop and operate large-scale research facilities and establish procedures for the development of high-quality software solutions.

With large amounts of data

All in one place

The department also acts as a link between the Institute's specialist departments and administrative services. Our tasks include operational and strategic management in the areas of controlling, IT management, public relations and quality assurance. Our public relations work enhances the visibility and reputation of the Institute to strengthen its position as a key player in the research landscape. Our quality and knowledge management helps us to secure our expertise and utilise it efficiently and in a targeted manner.
