We see software as a catalyst for research and innovation. As experts in software, we research and develop cutting-edge solutions in all application areas of DLR: aeronautics, space, energy and transport, security and digitalisation.

The DLR Institute of Software Technology researches and develops high-quality software solutions for space, aeronautics, energy, transport and security. The use of methodologically sound software technologies is essential for the design of reliable and innovative solutions in these areas and for mastering their complexity.

Our research improves methods of computer science, software and systems engineering as well as computational science and engineering. We ensure the sustainability of our research through knowledge and innovation transfer within and outside DLR.

The quality and sustainability of our software solutions is ensured by developing them according to clearly defined and comprehensible processes, taking into account quality characteristics such as security, performance, usability and maintainability.

The department of Flight Software researches and develops reliable and resilient real-time software for aircraft and spacecraft.

High-Performance Computing Department

The department of High-Performance Computing investigates advanced computing methods for complex computations and parallel processing of large amounts of data on high-performance computers and quantum computers.

Intelligent and Distributed Systems Department

The department of Intelligent and Distributed Systems focuses on the study, design and improvement of complex systems and complex processes in DLR’s research and application contexts.

Visual Computing and Engineering Department

The department of Visual Computing and Engineering works on collaborative modelling and immersive visualisation of digital twins, and on interactive visualisation and analysis of scientific data.
