Locations & Directions

The DLR Institute of Software Technology has six locations in total. To make it easy for you to find us, you can find detailed addresses and directions for each of our locations here.

Cologne

Aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security and digitalisation are the research fields that are being worked on in nine research institutions at DLR Cologne. The backbone of research and development is formed by large-scale test facilities, such as wind tunnels, engine and material test benches and a high-flux density solar oven.

Braunschweig

In order to advance the latest ideas and developments in the areas of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, the researchers in Braunschweig have access to, among other things, driving and flight test vehicles, railway laboratories, wind tunnels, rotor test rigs, driving and flight simulators and test rigs for materials and noise research available.

Oberpfaffenhofen

With around 2,000 employees in 13 scientific institutions, DLR Oberpfaffenhofen is one of the largest research centers in Germany. The main focuses include participation in space missions, climate research, earth observation, the expansion of navigation systems and the further development of robotics technology.

Sankt Augustin

Sankt Augustin in the Rhein-Sieg district is home to three DLR institutes: the Institute for AI Security, the Institute for the Protection of Terrestrial Infrastructures and the Institute for Software Technology.

Berlin

Space and transport – these are the research focuses of the DLR Berlin location. The institutes are involved in major missions for Earth observation and planets in our solar system as well as exoplanets. In the field of transport, scientists are researching mobility concepts of the future.

Hamburg

The DLR and its predecessor organizations have been represented in Hamburg since the 1950s. The DLR site has become significantly more important in recent years. With the founding of two new institutes in 2017, which make a significant contribution to digitalisation in aviation, there are now five DLR institutes and an innovation center for quantum computing in the world's third largest aviation location, Hamburg.
