IIn the iBOSS (intelligent Building Blocks for On-Orbit Satellite Servicing and Assembly) project, several German research institutions are working on the realization of a modular satellite concept with funding from the DLR Space Administration.

OSAM/ISAM describes a set of capabilities that are used in orbit (OSAM; Near Earth), on the surface of celestial bodies and in transit between these regimes (ISAM). This includes inspection, repair and refueling of spacecrafts, assemble structures and manufacturing components in space as needed. OSAM/ISAM capabilities will create new approaches to space activities.

Furthermore, the RSC³ coordinates closely with the civil space research of the DLR and the German Space Agency in order to exploit synergies between civil and defense technology research. The RSC³ supports the BAAINBw and the defense technical departments within the framework of its independent analysis and evaluation capabilities as well as commissioned research. As part of its technology screening, the competence center is in regular contact with German industry.
