Department: Technology demonstration
The technology demonstration has a cross-sectional structure and implements scientific research from the departments of launch, ground and space segment in projects and missions. The team is made up of experienced specialists in the areas of systems engineering and project management.
Only a few months after the Responsive Space Cluster Competence Center was founded, the first technology demonstrations were carried out. An excellent example is the commanding of the DLR small satellite BIROS (Bi-spectral InfraRed Optical System) by means of a mobile control center (V3C). The further development of the V3C by DLR Space Operations and Astronaut Training (RB) is supported by the RSC³.
The CubeISL project impressively demonstrates the use of synergies between civil space research and defense technology research within the DLR. Laser communication is a key technology for broadband, secure transmission of communication data. Close cooperation with industry ensures the timely transfer into operationally usable products.
Participations within the EU DEFIS EU DEFIS European Defence Fund are managed in the department and coordinated within DLR (e.g. REACTS).
