MRO application centre

The DLR Institute of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) is home to the MRO application centre. The centre serves as a research and development platform for new technologies for the realisation of future processes that digitalise and automate aircraft maintenance. By combining technologies, researchers here develop demonstrators for the digitalisation of maintenance and repair processes and conduct practical research into new maintenance concepts and the linking of components, systems and processes to future digital twins.

Linking the real and digital world

Maintenance research topics are studied in the MRO application centre within the context of the advancing digitalisation of aviation. It is increasingly essential to link the real and digital worlds, for which a variety of representative MRO and key technologies are provided at the centre. Core components include robotics, three-dimensional measurement equipment, augmented and virtual reality, position detection, artificial intelligence and camera, drone and inspection technology. The interaction of these components takes place centrally in a single laboratory.

This large-scale research facility enables the DLR Institute of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul to conduct practical research into the digitalisation of maintenance processes. The aim is to make maintenance more efficient in the future and to integrate different people and systems into collaborative processes. The MRO application centre also offers high potential for cooperation with partners from industry and research.
