Irregular moons of Jupiter (as of January 2021)
This chart shows the orbits of 71 outer irregular satellites of Jupiter known in January 2021 - as of April 2023, 16 more satellites have since been discovered. The orbits are colored according to their direction of orbit around Jupiter: prograde satellites, oriented like Jupiter's orbit, are shown in blue, while retrograde satellites are colored red. The satellite S/2003 J 10, which has “lost” since its discovery, is shown in dark red. The orbits are calculated by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. For comparison, the orbit of the Galilean moon Callisto (dark green) is shown in the center, which has a diameter of almost 3.8 million kilometers; for comparison: the diameter of the orbit of the earth moon is about 760,000 kilometers or four and a half Jupiter diameters.
