This virtual flight was created using data from the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC), developed by DLR. A mosaic image was combined with topographical data from a digital terrain model to generate a three-dimensional landscape. The flight over Ares Vallis spans an area more than twice the size of Germany. The journey begins at Ares Vallis, an expansive valley shaped long ago by massive flows of water. To the south, the flight passes two prominent craters, Masursky and Sagan. A change of direction to the north brings the Hydaspis Chaos region into view. The journey then continues towards the landing site ellipse of the European ExoMars rover, Rosalind Franklin. The virtual tour of Ares Vallis concludes with a bird's-eye view of the entire mosaic.
