The ritual ceremonial 'Pagapu al Agua' is an important tradition at Lake Junín.
Led by the governor of the village, bottles of liquor were emptied into the lake, one for each guest of the DLR team. Beforehand, everyone whispered a secret message into the bottle. Afterwards, food and coca leaves were tossed into the water and the team called out to the surrounding mountains in Quechua, some of which tower over 6000 metres high.
