:envihab is a medical research facility of the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine. Here, research is conducted into the impact of various environmental conditions on humans and possible countermeasures.

The Institute of Aerospace Medicine at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) conducts research at the interface of technology and humans with the aim of improving human health and safety in space, in aviation and on Earth. Biomedical and psychological findings and technological developments from our institute address important social challenges and are incorporated into economic trends. Our departments in Cologne and Hamburg, which have internationally unique research expertise and state-of-the-art infrastructure, cooperate with leading national and international research institutions and industry.

Management of the Institute

The Institute of Aerospace Medicine is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Jens Jordan as Director and PD Dr. med. vet. Christine Hellweg as Vice Director.

Departments

The Institute of Aerospace Medicine at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) comprises departments in Cologne and Hamburg with internationally unique research expertise and infrastructure. Within DLR, our institute forms the interface between high technology and life sciences such as biology, medicine and psychology.

Scientific Advisory Board

The Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine was established at the beginning of 2018. It advises the Institute independently on research and its structure. In addition, the advisory board supports contacts and cooperation between the Institute and other research institutions in Germany and abroad.

Medicine and Science Board

The Institute of Aerospace Medicine maintains a Medicine and Science Board to advise regarding medical human studies at the Institute. The task of the Board is to provide security for the study participants and to ensure the high standard of scientific quality.
