Study to evaluate the Aviation Road Map 2020 and develop a new Aviation Strategy 2030+ for Austria

On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK), the Institute of Airports and Air Transport (now the Institute of Air Transport) prepared a baseline study for the development of a new national aviation strategy and finalised it in 2022. The focus was on sustainability, competitiveness and connectivity, intermodality and digitalisation as well as technical developments.

The study consisted of consisted of three work packages. The first work package was an assessment of the current situation of the Austrian aviation market, including an evaluation of the existing strategy (as-is analysis). Centerpieces were air transport market analyses, including air traffic demand and supply, market share developments and the role of the Vienna hub, connectivity analyses on the accessibility of Austria its regions, and a stakeholder survey. The second work package comprised an analysis of current trends in the aviation sector, including forecasts, followed by a derivation of implications for the future development of Austria as an aviation location. Work package 3 comprised the actual draft strategy, including the development of an organisational structure for its implementation.
