In February and March 2025, Lucy observed its next target – asteroid (52246) Donaldjohanson – with its L'LORRI camera system. From 70 million kilometres away, Donaldjohanson appears as a dim point of light, but stands out clearly in a field of relatively faint stars in the Sextans constellation. The 0.11-degree field of view corresponds to 140,000 kilometres at the distance of the asteroid. During the spacecraft's long approach, Donaldjohanson will remain an unresolved point of light until 20 April 2025, and surface details will only be revealed on that day of the encounter.
