As fine as sand to the size of a rock: the regolith simulant at the LUNA facility in Cologne
There were around 750 tonnes of regolith simulant in the LUNA hall on the day the plant opened on 25 September 2024. Once the final construction work has been completed, the total quantity will be 900 tonnes. The 'Moon dust' was delivered over weeks in large sacks from a quarry in the Rhein-Sieg district (North Rhine-Westphalia).
