Resonance in the planetary system HD 110067
The TESS and CHEOPS space telescopes have discovered six planets around the star HD 110067, which is just over 100 light years away. They all orbit the star with periods that are in a whole-number pattern with their neighbours and thus rotate in resonance. If the positions of two neighbouring planets align at regular intervals, a unique pattern emerges for each pair. The 'resonance chain' of the six planets together creates a fascinating geometric pattern. The planets are not shown to scale with their central star.
