When two satellites travel together into space on an Ariane 5 launcher, the two 'guests' are separated by a special structure that connects them independently to the launch vehicle. SYstème de Lancement Double Ariane (SYLDA) has its own 30-year history. It was tested for the first time on the sixth flight of an Ariane 1 launcher in 1983. It has since been continuously developed. In this image, the upper part of SYLDA is visible as the black structure beneath the satellite.
