CHP plants for decentralised power and heat production are currently largely based on reciprocating engines. Researchers see a promising alternative in the micro gas turbine, a small gas turbine in the power range from a few up to a maximum of 500 kilowatts of electrical power. Compared to conventional engines, turbines have several advantages. They are flexible in terms of the fuel they use; they emit fewer pollutants and have a simple, low-maintenance design.
