The European satellite CoRoT discovered rocky planets
Early in 2009, researchers discovered the first rocky planets outside our Solar System using the European satellite CoRoT (Convection, Rotation and Planetary Transit). The smallest previously-known extrasolar planet is named CoRoT-Exo-7b, and is nearly twice as large as Earth.
