The search for exoplanetary systems
The next big mission to search for exoplanets and their exact characterisation is PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars). PLATO will specifically search for planets around bright stars that can be accurately characterised. Of particular interest are rocky planets with an atmosphere and on which watercould exist in a liquid state. Life could have developed on these planets.
