On 18 February 2021, NASA's Mars 2020 rover Perseverance and its accompanying Mars helicopter Ingenuity landed in Jezero crater. Perseverance is the most complex rover NASA has ever sent to Mars. Ingenuity, a technology experiment, is the first aerial vehicle to attempt a controlled flight on another planet. The 50-centimetre-tall helicopter drone was attached to the underside of Perseverance and lowered from there to the ground before Perseverance rolled away to a distance of a few metres and followed the flight demonstration with the rover cameras.
