The Hyperspectral Imager (HSI) on EnMAP records the sunlight reflected back from Earth, which reflects each material on our planet's surface in a characteristic way. EnMAP can detect, distinguish and image this 'coloured fingerprint' using its measuring instrument. The HSI instrument consists of two spectrometers. VNIR is responsible for the near and visible infrared range (420 - 1000 nm) and SWIR for the short-wave infrared range (900 - 2450 nm).
