The rover's main ‘eyes’ are at the top of its two-metre-high mast. The large round lens of the SuperCam, a combination of camera, laser and spectrometer that can be used to study the chemical and mineralogical composition of rocks from a distance, is striking. The two square, small, black lenses below belong to the Mastcam-Z, a panoramic camera with stereo and zoom functions, which are used both for scientific purposes and for navigating the rover. DLR scientists are taking part in both experiments.
