Magellanic Clouds
Gaia's view of the stars in the Milky Way’s two neighbouring dwarf galaxies: the Magellanic Clouds (lower left the Large Magellanic Cloud, upper right the Small Magellanic Cloud). Observations of the Magellanic Clouds with Gaia are very important for studying stars that vary in luminosity, such as Cepheid and RR Lyrae variables. These stars can be used as indicators of cosmic distances for distant galaxies.
