As of January 2020, 71 masts with recording and communications technologies have been installed along the A39 motorway. They can record road users and all other objects in the traffic area anonymously. Scientists use the data from real traffic to develop solutions for future assistance and automated systems. The Lower Saxony test field was opened on 8 January 2020.
