Digital terrain models of the Mars surface are generated from the image strips of the HRSC camera system on Mars Express recorded at various angles, which contain elevation information for each recorded pixel. The colour coding of the digital terrain model (legend above right) makes it easy to record the differences in altitude. The crater in the middle is about 300 meters deep.
