In the CemSol project, researchers from the DLR Institute of Future Fuels, together with industrial partners thyssenkrupp, DIRKRA Sondermaschinenbau GmbH and Future Cleantech Architects, are investigating how a solar thermal plant can supply the high-temperature heat for calcining calcium carbonate. This sustainable approach allows large amounts of CO₂ to be saved in the otherwise very energy-intensive sub-step of cement production.
