Departments

The research work at the Institute of Future Fuels is divided into four departments and sub-groups. The thematic focuses range from chemical and physical fundamentals, the design of processes and components, scaling and tests on large-scale research facilities to the evaluation and comprehensive process assessment of CO2-neutral fuels.

Chemical and physical fundamentals

The department of chemical and physical fundamentals is working on alternative methods for the production of renewable energy carriers. One focus is on the utilisation of heat transfer media with high thermal stability for the transfer of thermal energy into chemical processes.

Solar chemical process development

The Department of solar chemical process development brings technologies for the sustainable production of fuels and chemical base materials from the laboratories into application, thereby making a substantial contribution to reducing or even completely avoiding the emission of greenhouse gases such as CO₂ in energy-intensive processes.

Solar process demonstration

The department of solar process demonstration deals with the scaling and demonstration of processes for the efficient production of solar fuels with the aim of industrial realisation. It brings the processes previously developed and tested on a laboratory and technical centre scale to the next larger scale and demonstrates them in large-scale research facilities.

Evaluation of solar production processes

The department evaluation of solar production processes analyses and evaluates different processes for the production of CO₂-neutral fuels and base materials based on solar energy.
