Trauen
The Trauen site of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) is located in the Lüneburg Heide, in the immediate vicinity of the Bundeswehr airport in Faßberg. The site's convenient location far from urban settlements and yet close to conurbations has been used to carry out highly demanding experiments for research since 1935.
Here, the Institute of Propulsion Technology conducts research alongside the Material Testing Centre for Fire Behaviour in the field of fire protection in aviation to ensure airworthiness in accordance with international aviation standards.
DLR's Responsive Space Cluster Competence Center – RSC³ – which is also located here, aims to build up a technology base in the context of 'Responsive Space' and to carry out the respective technology demonstrations. All relevant segments – space, ground, launch and mission – are investigated and further developed here. In keeping with the cluster concept, the competence centre works in close cooperation with existing institutes and facilities at DLR as well as with end users and industry.
