Aachen
DLR's Small Aircraft Technology facility operates the Innovation Center for Small Aircraft Technologies (INK) in Aachen and at the Aachen-Merzbrück research airfield. The INK focuses on the topics of electric flying and urban mobility with a view to small aircraft against the backdrop of the Rhenish Mining Area's mission statement as the 'mobility region of the future'. In this context, it addresses scientific questions in the areas of general aviation and urban air mobility in particular.
The air traffic of the future requires the development of more environmentally friendly and climate-friendly technologies that enable emission-free and low-noise flight. These goals can best be achieved through the close cooperation of science and research as well as through increased direct collaboration with SMEs (small or medium-sized enterprises) and industry. The Innovation Center for Small Aircraft Technology is intended to provide a suitable framework for this.
In the DLR_School_Lab RWTH Aachen schoolchildren find out how robots 'learn'. They look at how drones and industrial robots are controlled, and learn about current and future issues.
