Standardisation

Standardisation
Through its standardisation work, DLR secures a pioneering role in future technologies and strengthens its position as a technology partner for industry.

Standardisation is becoming increasingly important in the key research areas of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR). As a research centre and space agency of the Federal Republic of Germany, DLR plays an active and leading role in standardisation activities in these areas. The department coordinates the participation of German research and industry in various national and international committees (DIN, CEN, ISO), consortia and associations related to spaceflight.

Standardisation is already used during the research and development phase of projects and products. In this way, we support researchers and developers in the implementation of standardisation activities.

New procedures and results from DLR institutes and facilities are made available to the general public and can be converted into industrially usable products.

The strategic objectives of standardisation for DLR

DLR sees itself not only as a compliant user of norms and standards, but also strives to play an active and leading role in their development. The aim is to implement DLR's research and work results in an application-orientated manner and to provide them as an innovation service for a partnership with industry.

DLR's strategic goals for standardisation reflect this position:

DLR positions itself as an attractive technology partner for industry through its involvement in standardisation and in doing so holds the function of technology provider. Through this standardisation work, DLR secures its pioneering role in the design of future technologies. This is supported by active participation and a unified presence in the standardisation committees that relate to DLR's key research areas.
