Department Software Methods

Flow simulation

The Software Methods department investigates how to efficiently and selectively extract the information needed for computer model-based product testing and qualification to produce the "Virtual Product" from very large amounts of data.

The software requirements for the use of "virtual twins" in the regulatory environment are examined and the necessary methods and tools developed. The department's research includes methods for reliable protection against involuntary or targeted modification of data and programs.

Among the main research activities are:

  • Model-based software engineering
  • Methods for reduction, compression and fusion of large, heterogeneous data sets
  • Replacement models, reduced-order models, machine learning methods
  • Data integrity strategies
  • Aspects of software security
  • Concepts for standards and processes for automated software verification and validation
  • Strategies to ensure reproducibility and traceability of simulation data and simulation processes
  • Simulation-based certification strategies
