HIFIS - Helmholtz Federated IT Services
Empirical data is the raw material of excellent research. In order to enable the best possible usability of the data, it is necessary to provide the appropriate expertise and IT infrastructure. Especially in decentralised research institutions, such as the research centres of the Helmholtz Association, fast and smooth data exchange between the various research centres is becoming increasingly important.
To this end, the Helmholtz Association has initiated the HIFIS (Helmholtz Federated IT Services) project with the aim of creating a collaborative information environment to meet the requirements of processes in modern research operations. In addition to the development of an IT infrastructure, the Helmholtz Association also supports the development of appropriate research software.
Continuing DLR's success at Helmholtz level
The DLR Institute of Software Technology plans to continue the success of DLR's internal software engineering initiative at Helmholtz level. The aim is to establish a network of communities that actively support each other in the development of scientific software.
DLR's diverse environment provides an ideal basis for this. Concepts that have been successfully introduced and proven over many years are to be expanded, adapted and taken to the next level. Examples of such concepts are the modular training system, the software engineering network, the knowledge exchange workshops and moderated topic wikis. However, the Institute of Software Technology not only wants to share its successful concepts, but in particular carry out a scientifically sound analysis of the current status quo and the immediate and long-term effects of the newly introduced concepts.
