PD Dr. Ruth Hemmersbach receives 2024 ELGRA Life Sciences Medal

At the conference of the European Low Gravity Research Association (ELGRA) in Liverpool, PD Dr. Ruth Hemmersbach, Head of the Applied Aerospace Biology Department and Deputy Director of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, was awarded the “2024 ELGRA Medal Life Sciences”. Ruth Hemmersbach was honored for her outstanding scientific contributions in the field of life science space research.
Ruth Hemmersbach was particularly pleased to receive this award shortly before retirement because it recognizes her more than 30 years of research in the field of gravitational biology: In her keynote lecture, she reflected on her scientific career, particularly impressive events such as the responsibility and control of her own space experiments from the ground, national and international collaborations and resulting friendships. She concluded with the recommendation to consciously use the inspiration and results from space travel to protect life on Earth and thus secure the future of upcoming generations.
