Expert Lecture on the Future of Airport Infrastructure

As part of the conference “Infrastructures of the future for airfields and airports”, Dr. Florian Linke, Acting Director of the Institute of Air Transport at the German Aerospace Center, delivered a specialist lecture at AERO Friedrichshafen 2024. Titled “Infrastructural Challenges for Airfields and Airports in the Context of New Energy Carriers”, the lecture addressed key questions regarding the development of air traffic in Germany and beyond.
The presentation illuminated various aspects, including the introduction of new energy carriers such as hydrogen and batteries, along with the associated challenges faced by airports and airfields. The exchange with representatives from aircraft manufacturers, research institutes, airfields, and associations provided valuable insights into the future developments of the aviation industry, emphasising the importance of sustainable and efficient infrastructure for aviation.
AERO is the international trade fair for general aviation, business aviation, and air sports. With more than 650 exhibitors from 35 countries, 33,000 visitors, and 600 journalists from around the world, AERO Friedrichshafen is the most important annual meeting point for the community worldwide. The fair took place from 17 to 20 April 2024, in Friedrichshafen.
DLR presented current projects and topics on electric flying, with a focus from the Institutes of Electrified Aero Engines and Engineering Thermodynamics, as well as the Technologies for Small Aircraft and the Innovation Center for Small Aircraft Technologies.
