Wood in Vehicle Structures Competence Centre

Logo Wood in Vehicle Structures Competence Centre

The Wood in Vehicle Structures Competence Centre was founded with the aim of making the in-depth knowledge of the DLR Institute of Vehicle Concepts in the field of design, construction, simulation and validation of wood-based structural construction methods, developed in a large number of research projects, accessible to our domestic vehicle and supplier industry and thereby promoting the transfer to concrete, economically attractive applications. As one of the world's leading research institutions in this field of technology, we see it as our task to support industrial companies in tapping into this new area of sustainable structural design.

Our competence centre offers a wide range of services for all interested parties. From initial information events and training courses to familiarise yourself with the topic, to active cooperation in research and development projects and bilateral support in the development of new products in the field of structural timber construction.

In our role as an interface between research, development and industry, we are constantly expanding our network in order to offer users a wide range of solutions along the entire value chain. We form consortia for further projects, which then develop solutions for challenging problems in subsidised projects, for example.

In our developments of wood-based construction methods, we utilise wood not only as a material, but also as an integral key to creating sustainable vehicle structures. From detailed design and innovative developments to precise simulation and validation, we are at the forefront of development with a focus on establishing robust supply chains, reducing emissions in the production process, cutting costs and always addressing lightweight construction. As leading experts, we are constantly endeavouring to expand our capabilities in line with demand. We not only initiate joint research activities, but also actively shape the transfer of knowledge and ensure technological leadership. Our endeavours are also aimed at making a contribution to achieving the CO2 targets of the EU and the German government and improving public awareness of this key technology. By accelerating research and development, we support the market launch of pioneering technologies and offer a comprehensive testing infrastructure for their validation. Access to the network's resources and experts is not just an offer, but an active contribution to realising our core mission - to promote innovations in Germany and transfer them into applications.

We, the employees at the Wood in Vehicle Structures Competence Centre, rely on more than just innovative technologies. We believe in the power of collaboration, the dynamics of partnerships and the sustainable change that is made possible by the use of wood in vehicle structures worldwide. With this in mind, we look forward to supporting you in opening up new areas of technology and markets for more sustainable products and bringing them successfully to application.
