James Webb is a very special telescope. It looks like something out of a science fiction film. The construction of the sunshield and the deployable 6.5-metre diameter primary mirror give the largest and most powerful space telescope to date a unique shape. The international project, in which thousands of scientists, engineers and technicians from 14 countries are involved, is an example of international teamwork. A total of 258 space agencies, companies and universities are participating - 142 of them in the USA, 104 in 12 European countries and 12 in Canada.
