Venus in the laboratory
At the DLR Planetary Spectroscopy Laboratory (PSL), scientists are investigating how the reflectance and emissivity of rocks change under extremely high temperatures. This allows the interpretation of spectral measurements of hot planetary surfaces, such as those of Venus and Mercury, and to develop sensors and instruments for future spacecraft that will determine the mineralogical and geochemical composition of such hot surfaces.
