This map shows part of the Chryse Planitia lowlands and the transition zone to the Tempe Terra and Lunae Planum highlands (left edge of image). Here, the Kasei Valles channel system, which was very probably formed by multiple gigantic flood events, emerges into the northern lowlands. The colour coding of the image emphasises the elevation differences on the surface (blue = low, yellow = high). The images described in the article are located in the small rectangle within the strip of images acquired by the HRSC camera during orbit 15,714.
