Ries Crater
The Ries Crater, on the border between Swabia and Franconian Jura regions, was formed when an asteroid measuring one kilometre across crashed to Earth here 14.8 million years ago. What remains of the crater can be most clearly seen in the digital elevation model created using data from the radar satellites TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X.
