Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Oslo for Irena Hajnsek

Award of the honorary doctorate - Irena Hajnsek

We're honored to celebrate Professor Irena Hajnsek's outstanding achievements in the field of Earth Observation and Remote Sensing! Congratulations on your remarkable contributions, Professor Hajnsek!

Irena Hajnsek is Professor of Earth Observation and Remote Sensing at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and concurrently heads the Polarimetric Radar Interferometry research group at the German Aerospace Center.

Her research focus is on electromagnetic propagation and scattering, radar polarimetry, radar interferometry, and Earth observation.

She received her Dipl. degree in 1996 from the Free University of Berlin, Germany, and the Dr. degree in 2001 from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany. She worked then in France, Scotland, and Australia. Professor Hajnsek is the science coordinator of the German satellite mission TanDEM-X.

Irena Hajnsek made outstanding contributions to science, including the development of algorithms using innovative radar techniques for environmental parameter estimation and setting requirements for the design of future radar missions in application areas as permafrost, glaciers, disaster management, agriculture, and climate change impacts.
