Reconnaissance and Security-old

The Reconnaissance and Security department works on topics of remote sensing and reconnaissance for govenmental, national systems. The main interests are:

 
Reconnaissance Systems
  • Development and realization of tools for development, analysis and simulation of space-based SAR systems with highest spatial and radiometric resolution including the necessary signal processing steps,
  • Analysis of the scattering behavior of natural and meta materials,
  • Work on methods and tools for efficient information extraction using image data,
  • Setup of earth-based experimental SAR systems with highest spatial and radiometric resolution,
  • Setup of full-polarimetric microwave radiometers based on the principle of aperture synthesis.

The department is subdivided into five working groups which treat the topics described below.

Research Groups

SAR Analysis (Dr. Björn A. Dietrich)

The SAR Analysis group is engaged in the development of analytical and numerical techniques for the design and analysis of spaceborne SAR systems for reconnaissance missions.

SAR Simulation (Dr. Rainer Speck)

The SAR simulation group is focusing on the conception, development and realization of complex end-to-end simulation tools for the analysis and optimization of highest-resolution SAR systems with variable imaging geometries on space-borne or air-borne platforms, the prediction of high-resolution imaging effects, the analysis of complex target signatures, and training of military image interpreters. Further activities are the development of ground-segment processing and analysis tools for SAR-Lupe and successor.

Microwave Sensors (Dr. Markus Peichl)

The group performs research, development and construction of high-performance radar and radiometer systems for various applications. For radar applications high-resolution, fully-polarimetric, multi-channel systems for imaging, target signature acquisition, or range and velocity measurements are considered, for instance. In addition, advanced image reconstruction tools like ISAR/SAR processing and corresponding evaluation tools suitable for the operated radar systems, are investigated and implemented.

Signatures (Dr. Thomas Jagdhuber)

Analysis of the scattering behaviour (signatures) of man-made targets in their natural environment. The focus is on the development of computer programs for the numerical simulation of mono- as well as bistatic radar signatures.

Projects and Contracts

Satellite Systems Engineering (Dipl.-Ing. Mark Lützner)

Lead of analyses and simulations for satellite missions and satellite systems to support in house and external satellite projects activities, development of tools for mission analysis with respect to information age of payload data, system response time and coverage.
