DLR and POLARIS sign cooperation agreement on spaceplanes and hypersonic aircraft
The agreement between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the German aerospace start-up POLARIS covers joint research and development activities to pave the way for routine flight of horizontal take-off spaceplanes and hypersonic transport vehicles in national, European and intercontinental airspace.
The DLR Institute of Flight Guidance will participate in the collaboration by exploring the use of its Launch Coordination Center for the safe integration of POLARIS’ flight vehicles into the airspace. POLARIS will contribute by providing the use cases including its future hypersonic spaceplanes, but also scaled demonstrators that are already flying or will fly soon.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Anke Pagels-Kerp, Divisional Board Member for Space at DLR and Prof. Dr. Dirk Kügler, Director of the DLR Institute of Flight Guidance, as well as by Alexander Kopp, CEO POLARIS Raumflugzeuge. It has a duration of 3.5 years and will support further joint projects.
DLR and POLARIS are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation that will help to shape the future of space transport and high-speed/high-altitude flight.
