Institute of Space Systems

We are pioneering ground-breaking innovations in space to push the boundaries of what is currently possible, promote sustainability and transfer relevant knowledge to the economy and society.

Institute of Space Systems

Location:

  • Bremen

Web: DLR.de/en/irs

The Institute of Space Systems defines its role within the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and within the research and development landscape for space systems through its focus on innovative design methods, space technologies and space systems, and in this function complements the research and development activities of German and European industry.

With the help of our systems expertise, we analyse, research and implement innovative space systems, technologies and methods along the entire mission chain.

We analyse future trends and promising technologies and support the development of medium and long-term strategies for design methods and technologies of space systems, space transportation and space exploration systems. With this expertise in space technologies and systems, the Institute is an independent source of advice on space-related aspects.

What specialities are we looking for?

  • Aerospace engineering
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Computer engineering

Our institute aims to develop technologies and methods as well as systems engineering processes and to demonstrate them through the realisation of scientific orbital and deep space missions.

Other focal points are contributions to the further development of Expendable Launch Vehicles (ELV) and Reusable Launch Vehicles (RLV) as well as re-entry vehicles and propulsion systems.

We enable the ambitious space missions of tomorrow!
