greenius - Support

We kindly ask for your understanding that we cannot provide hotline support for greenius.

Nevertheless there are several options to get support for Greenius:

  1. Read the greenius Manual. It is also copied automatically to the greenius main directory during installation.
  2. Use the online help system of the software which can be opened either by pressing <F1> or via the menu entry help.
  3. Take a look into the frequently asked questions (FAQ) below.
  4. Finally you may also submit a request to the greenius developers by email.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between greenius and FreeGreenius?

Actually the software is called greenius while FreeGreenius is the title of a project funded by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy with the main goal to publish a free version of greenius. Prior to this project a free version of greenius was also available but that free version had a couple of restrictions and was not a full version. Software versions without these restrictions were only given to partners within joint projects or to a limited number of entities.

In order to make the software available for the public, the project FreeGreenius was defined and thanks to the funding by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy you may now download and utilize the software.

Is there a version of greenius available for other OS than Microsoft Windows?

No, greenius is currently only made for Microsoft Windows XP, 7, 8 or 10 and there are no plans to develop it for other operating systems.

Has the software been validated?

Yes. it has been validated but not in a sense that it has been used to compare the simulation results to measurements of a whole year for an existing plant. Owners and operators of CSP plants are quite reluctant to publish detailed operating data of existing plants. Therefore we have only a limited number of measured data for model comparison which does not comprise a whole year of operation. Annother problem is that the available performance data is often not complete in the sense that not all necessary input parameters needed for the simulation are logged with the required temporal resolution. One example for this parameters is the cleanliness of the collector field. greenius uses a mean cleanliness but the cleanliness will vary in time and space and the actual mean value for the whole collector field will be not reported, in most cases.

Futhermore we have compared greenius to other simulation tools for annual performace calculation of CSP plants. This has been done several times and with different tools. The results were quite good and in this comparions we observed that the greenius results were often somewhat lower than the median. This might be due to the fact, that greenius considers thermal inertia of HTF and piping, though it is a staedy state model.

How accurate are the datasets delivered with greenius?

We are trying to use published data for technical parts like collectors, absorbers, etc. from supplier datasheets or other publications. Furthermore we try to check these data when possible. Nevertheless we cannot give any guarantee for the data. If you are a supplier and you realize any erroneous or outdated data for your product, please send us an email.

Greenius does not start because MSVCR71.dll is missing. What can I do?

MSVCR71.dll is a standard dynamic link library of Microsoft Windows operating systems. However it is not installed in some cases. In case you encounter this error please install the latest verstion of Greenius. As of version 4.0.6 the dynamic library is not needed anymore. If this does not solve the problem please send us an email.
