Representatives of the German Red Cross visit ZKI
On September 19 & 20, representatives of the German Red Cross (DRK) from the fields of information management and GIS visited the ZKI and discussed joint, future collaborations with DLR scientists. During the meeting, the guests received an overview of the previous and current research work of the department "Geo Risks and Civil Security" and in particular of the "Center for Satellite Based Crisis Information" in the use of remote sensing data for crisis contexts. Furthermore, colleagues from the Remote Sensing Methodology Institute (Department "Photogrammetry and Image Analysis") presented their latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence for rapid damage assessment in a crisis context.
In return, the representatives of the DRK provided deeper insight into their concrete needs for data and information in the event of a crisis. This resulted in many points of contact for future cooperation, especially in the area of crisis information products and communication for decision-makers. Cooperation with the German Red Cross has been intensified over the past few years as part of the Data4Human project and is now to be continued.
