The Center for Satellite based Crisis Information (ZKI) is an institution of the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen.
At the ZKI, earth observation data such as satellite, aerial or drone images are analyzed with other (geo)data using innovative methods and processed in a user-friendly way. This is used, for example, to create up-to-date situation information before, during or after disaster and crisis situations as well as for plannable major events or for exercises. The crisis-relevant information is generated in consultation with ZKI users and published, for example, in the form of maps, geo-pdf, web services or as text dossiers.
The International Charter "Space and Major Disasters" is an association of space agencies and satellite operators with the aim of providing a unified system for the rapid acquisition and delivery of satellite data in case of a disaster or crisis situation.
