The decentralised feed-in of countless photovoltaic systems causes major fluctuations in the electricity grid. The more systems are installed, the greater the effect on the distribution grids. "With our Eye2Sky measurement network, we can predict these fluctuations very accurately," explains Jonas Stührenberg from the Institute of Networked Energy Systems.

The regional German news station NDR explained how energy meteorology contributes to the stability of power grids in a four-minute television feature in "Hallo Niedersachsen". Jonas Stührenberg and Dr. Annette Hammer from the Institute of Networked Energy Systems explained how the Eye2Sky meteorological measuring network works: it uses its cloud cameras to predict the solar radiation to the minute for each individual solar installation in the test area. The report explains why this data is of interest to electricity grid operators, energy traders and operators of large solar parks.
