Our profile – our vision

Our vision:
Making the energy transition in business and society succesful through research.

Shaping energy transition: Transformation strategies and technical solutions for a climate-neutral system

At the Institute of Networked Energy Systems, we pursue an overarching goal: We want to make energy transition in the economy and society successful through our research. We develop transformation strategies and technical solutions to link the electricity, heating, transport and industrial sectors efficiently. To this end, we work together with our partners from industry and research to develop a holistic understanding of the system and effective system solutions.

Our research teams consider all levels of the energy system in their work - from centralised large-scale infrastructures such as storage caverns to the electricity and gas grids and the technical equipment of buildings. We take into account technical, economic, political, ecological and social framework conditions and create valuable synergy effects through co-operation between our technical and systems analysis research groups.

As a result, we are able to address two key transfer levels: Technology transfer through our technical solutions and knowledge transfer with the results of our internally developed modelling and analysis tools.

Our mission:
Together with our partners from industry and academia, we develop a holistic systems understanding and effective solutions to transform our energy systems.

At our Oldenburg and Stuttgart sites, we focus on the following four fields of action, which we consider to be key challenges for the continued success of energy transition:
