  • Focus: Energy, Research transfer

DLR has been elected to the board of the Oldenburg Energy Cluster and will be represented with immediate effect by Dr Benedikt Hanke, Coordinator for Research Strategy at the Institute of Networked Energy Systems. Eleven further representatives from business, research and politics were elected to the board of the regional innovation network at the most recent general meeting. Roland Hentschel, Head of Regional Development at the City of Oldenburg, was confirmed as Chairman of the Board for a further two years.

For the DLR site in Oldenburg, the appointment is a recognition of many years of successful cooperation with a wide range of regional players from the energy sector. "In recent years, Oldenburg has developed into an innovative, diverse and well-networked location for the energy sector. The Oldenburg Energy Cluster has been shaping this path for 20 years as an important driving force for technology transfer from research to industry and for demonstrating and implementing the energy transition. We are proud to be part of this success story," says Hanke. At the DLR site in Oldenburg, the Institute of Networked Energy Systems, the Institute of Systems Engineering for Future Mobility and the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics conduct research on energy and transport topics.

Since its foundation in 2004, the OLEC innovation network has been proactively shaping regional energy transition and researching future topics in the energy sector with its members. "For 20 years, I have been convinced that we can only tackle the urgent issues of our time, such as climate change, the transition to renewable energies, sustainable energy research and regional development, by working together with all stakeholders. OLEC shows that this is possible and is a reliable partner for the region, the energy state of Lower Saxony and our cross-border partner institutions," emphasised the new and former Chairman of the Board Roland Hentschel at the members' meeting.

In terms of content, the innovation network focusses its activities on future developments, for example the emergence of the hydrogen economy, the heat transition and sustainable mobility. More than 60 member companies and institutions, which can become active together in projects, innovation spaces and through intensive networking via the OLEC, guarantee a high level of consistency. According to Hentschel, the main focus of the network over the next few years will be the matter of broad acceptance for renewable energies and the transformation of energy, heating and transport.
